Jurgen Klopp has steered Liverpool into the race for Celta Vigo striker Nolito in the final few days of the winter transfer window.

Nolito has been linked with leaving Celta Vigo throughout the transfer window, with Barcelona and Arsenal both mooted as being keen to capture his services.

Barcelona have been unwilling to meet his €18m release clause however, while Arsenal have not pushed through a deal.

Now the pair may be left trailing as Liverpool hunt Nolito. Indeed, according to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, Klopp has identified the former Benfica striker as the man to solve his side's goalscoring problem.

Klopp is keen on Shakhtar Donetsk's Alex Teixeira, but Nolito is claimed to be his other key objective.

Liverpool look unlikely to be able to land Teixeira this month as Shakhtar Donetsk play hardball over the Brazilian, despite his desire to move to Anfield.

Securing Nolito may prove to be an easier affair for the Merseyside giants, if they are willing to activate his €18m release clause at Celta Vigo.

The clock however is ticking, while Arsenal or Barcelona could yet launch a late assault.
