Chelsea have officially confirmed the loan signing of striker Alexandre Pato from Brazilian outfit Corinthians.

Pato will remain at Stamford Bridge until the end of the current campaign, though it is unclear whether Chelsea will have an option to keep him on a permanent basis should he impress.

The striker turned down big money offers from China to head to Chelsea and is keen for another crack at European football after a spell with AC Milan.

Pato told Chelsea's official site: "I am so happy to sign for Chelsea. It is a dream for me. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know my new team-mates and cannot wait to play.

"I thank Chelsea for their support and hope I can repay this faith to the club and its fans", Pato added.

Pato will add to the attacking options at manager Guus Hiddink's disposal as Chelsea bid to rise up the Premier League standings and make a late dash to finish in the top four.

The Brazilian first headed to Europe in 2007 when he joined AC Milan, while he departed in January 2013 after having made 150 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring 63 goals in the process.

Pato spent last year in Brazil on loan at Sao Paulo.
