Shakhtar Donetsk general director Sergei Palkin has revealed that his side are counting on Liverpool target Alex Teixeira for the rest of the season.

The attacking midfielder, whose present contract with Shakhtar runs until 2018, has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the January transfer window.

The Merseyside giants even put forward a €36m bid for Teixeira which the Ukrainian giants were quick to knock back.

With Shakhtar still in the running for the domestic league and the Europa League, Palkin insisted that the club are unwilling to part ways with the 26-year-old this month.

However, Palkin explained that Shakhtar are open to doing business with any team ready to pay Teixeira’s €70m release clause before the closure of the winter transfer window in three days’ time.

“They [Liverpool] stopped after an offer at €32m and a €4m bonus”, he told Ukrainian TV programme Football 1.

“This is the last number that was announced. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira now.

“We will sell him only at the end of the season. We need to have some serious results in the Europa League and the Ukraine championship.

“At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table.

“Teixeira has a compensation charge [release clause, ed.] in his contract – €70m. Please, if someone wants him, let them come and declare themselves.”

Teixeira, who is currently out with a hamstring injury, has scored 26 goals in as many games this season.

The former Vasco da Gama man is yet to earn a senior cap for Brazil, but has represented the nation at Under-17 and Under-20 levels.
