Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels the club should look to sign players this month with a long term view in mind.

The Whites are intending to do more business in addition to the players they have already signed in January, namely Mustapha Carayol on loan from Middlesbrough and Toumani Diagouraga on a permanent deal from Brentford.

Steve Evans has repeatedly indicated that he doesn’t feel that the squad are good enough to challenge for a top six push this season and stressed the importance of adding more quality to the Leeds team.

Gray also admits that the current squad could do with some quality additions, but stressed the importance of finding the right kind of players, ones who will be good enough to help the team to push for promotion, if not this season, then in the future.

The Leeds legend, previewing the game against Bolton, said on LUTV: “When I look at the squad now, I think it can do with some improvements.

“It all depends how far you want to go, or how far you want to push the boat out.

“You want to get the type of players whom if you get them and don’t get up [promoted], are going to be good enough to get you up next season.”

Leeds are 14th in the league table on 36 points, ten points off Sheffield Wednesday who are occupying the last playoff spot at the moment.
