Seydou Doumbia is heading to Newcastle United and is set to put pen to paper on a loan deal with the Magpies, it has been claimed.

Newcastle, along with Arsenal and Sunderland, have been chasing the Roma striker, but it appears Magpies boss Steve McClaren's desire to get a deal done for the Ivorian has won the day.

McClaren is desperate to sign a proven goalscorer to pull Newcastle away from relegation troubles in the Premier League and Doumbia is his man.

Indeed, according to Italian broadcaster Sky Italia, Doumbia's move to St James' Park is done and dusted; the switch is a loan with a right to buy if he impresses in England.

It is claimed Doumbia has agreed to join Newcastle and is now poised to sign for the Premier League side.

McClaren will hope that the striker can make an instant impact at Newcastle, with a cutting edge lacking so far.

Doumbia spent the first half of the season on loan at Russian side CSKA Moscow, where he scored eleven goals in 21 games, including a strike in the Champions League against Manchester United.

He is out of favour at Roma though and is being moved on by the Italian club.
