Everton are closing in on the signature of Senegalese striker Oumar Niasse from Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow in a deal believed to be in the region of £13.5m.

According to the BBC, the Toffees are on course to sign the 25-year-old for the highest transfer fee paid by an English club in the ongoing transfer window.

Newcastle United have shelled out of £12m each for Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend, and it is the highest transfer fee paid for an incoming transfer by an English club until now.

The 25-year-old striker has 13 goals to his name in 23 appearances for Igor Cherevchenko’s side, while also racking up 10 assists.

The Senegalese international is of a similar mould to Everton’s top scorer, Romelu Lukaku, and is known for his strength and quick movement.

The Goodison Park outfit are light in the striker department, having sold Steven Naismith to Norwich earlier in the transfer window for £8.5m.

Martinez will be hoping the arrival of the 25-year-old will help his side improve their league position this season, having finished 11th last season.
