Liverpool’s pursuit of highly rated Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira has come to an end after the Ukrainian side refused to budge on their asking price for the Brazilian, according to Eurosport.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield for most of the ongoing transfer window and Liverpool had a £24.5m bid for Teixeira turned down by the Ukranian outfit earlier in the window.

Liverpool were hopeful with the player wanting to make the move there could be further developments, but the Miners have refused to budge, insisting the Reds pay Teixeira's release clause of £53m.

The former Brazil Under-20 international has notched up 26 goals in 26 appearances for the Donbass Arena side this season.

During his six-year spell with the club the Brazilian midfielder has managed to score 89 goals in 222 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk.
