Sheffield Wednesday are close to signing Everton winger Aiden McGeady on a loan deal, according to BBC Radio Sheffield.

McGeady, who has barely featured for the Toffees in the present campaign, had a medical at Hillsborough yesterday.

Leeds United were also interested in the Ireland international, who has clocked up just 45 minutes of action this season, which came in a League Cup game against Barnsley in August.

Everton agreed fees with two Championship outfits, but it seems the Owls have managed to trump their rivals in their bid to land McGeady.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside club on a loan deal in the January transfer window in order to secure regular first team action before Euro 2016.

Celtic too at one stage were pondering over making a move for McGeady, whose present contract with Everton runs until 2018.

He joined Everton from Spartak Moscow in January 2014 and has thus far made 43 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring once and providing seven assists.
