Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is not going to be loaned out to former club Southampton before the end of the transfer window, according to the Press Association.

The 22-year-old has made 29 appearances for the Gunners this season, but has failed to live up to the expectations, scoring only one goal this season. He scored his only goal in the Community Shield against Chelsea in August, which Arsenal won 1-0.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was signed by the Gunners in 2011 for £12m from Saints and the winger has since shown glimpses of his potential.

The 22-year-old has made 145 appearances for the north London outfit, scoring 13 goals in the process.

Reports in the English media had indicated that the Saints were interested in loaning the winger until the end of the season.

However, the England international is expected to stay at the Emirates Stadium this season and fight for a place in Arsene Wenger’s side.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has fallen down the pecking order at north London behind Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell.

The Frenchman is unlikely to want the explosive winger to be loaned out this season, especially in light of Arsenal’s injury record.

The Gunners are currently competing on three fronts and Wenger will need a complete squad, if he is to mount a genuine challenge on all fronts.
