Marseille have knocked back a substantial written offer from Stoke City for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur target Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgian hitman has been linked with a move away from Marseille for months, but the club were hoping that after tying him down to new deal earlier this month, they would be able to enjoy a quieter January window.

However, in the last hours of the window the club faced a real dilemma over the forward as according to L’Equipe, Stoke City slapped in a substantial written offer for the 22-year-old striker.

However, the club stayed firm and it has been suggested that they have rejected the offer from Stoke City; the Ligue 1 outfit are refusing to sell the player in the middle of the season.

Marseille were also unwilling to provide more encouragement to clubs such as Newcastle and Tottenham by accepting a bid from Stoke City for Batshuayi and the player himself is said to be unwilling to switch bases in January.

With West Ham and Arsenal also in the mix for Batshuayi, it remains to be seen whether Marseille remain firm should another big offer drops on their table in the coming hours of deadline day.

The forward has made 60 appearances for Marseille since joining Standard Liege in 2014 and has 25 goals to his name.
