Marco van Ginkel has explained that although his ultimate aim remains to play for Chelsea, he is currently fully focused on doing well for PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutchman joined PSV on a loan deal for the rest of the season on deadline day after cutting short his loan stint at Stoke City.

The Chelsea loanee originally joined the Potters for the entire season in the summer, but a lack of game time at the Britannia Stadium prompted the 23-year-old to head back to his homeland for the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign.

And Van Ginkel, who thanked Chelsea for supporting his decision, insisted that he is still keen to make his mark at the London club.

"PSV and I had been in contact for a long time, they persisted and I felt trusted”, he told PSV’s official site.

“Last summer, Chelsea preferred to loan me to an English club. In the beginning, I played a lot at Stoke.

“But then I was used mostly as a substitute and played in cup games. It was not enough so I decided to join PSV. I’m pleased that Chelsea supported my decision.

“I still have two-and-a-half years left on my present deal with Chelsea; although my ultimate aim is to play for Chelsea, currently I’m 100 per cent focused on PSV.”

With PSV fighting for three trophies in the present campaign, Van Ginkel is most excited by the prospect of facing Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 of the Champions League later in the month.

“There’s huge scope for PSV this season, starting with the cup on Thursday”, he continued.

“Of course the Dutch league is the most important. And of course the Champions League, I’m really looking forward to the match against Atletico.”

Van Ginkel has thus far clocked up just 97 minutes over four appearances in all competitions for Chelsea since joining the club from Vitesse in 2013.

The 23-year-old, who featured 20 times for Stoke, spent the last season on loan at AC Milan.
