Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes his side need to stay positive in their hunt for a first title in 12 years, after last night’s goalless draw against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners failed to find a way past Saints goalkeeper Fraser Forster, despite having 21 attempts, 11 out of which were on target.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper was in prime form as he kept out everything dished at him by Arsene Wenger’s side.

The Emirates outfit have failed to score for a third consecutive game and their Premier League title hopes suffered a big blow.

The Gunners have dropped to fourth in the league standings, having managed to pick up only three points from a possible 12 in the last four games.

Giroud, who has 18 goals in all competitions this season, believes it will be difficult for his side to catch league leaders Leicester City – who are now five points above Arsenal – but the team need to strive to get maximum points in the coming weeks

The 29-year-old feels that his side are not out of the title race, but feels that they need to be more efficient if they want to turn things around in the last 14 games.

Speaking in an interview with Arsenal Player, Giroud said: “Now we are five points from Leicester City so it is going to be a hard time in the few weeks to go and we need to get as many points as we can.

“It’s not over – we need to stay positive and be more efficient in the next games to come.”

The Gunners travel to Dean Court on Sunday to take on 15th placed Bournemouth.
