Leeds United legend Eddie Gray wants the club to sustain a longer FA Cup run as it would boost the confidence of the players.

Steve Evans’ side booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers last weekend and will now need to negotiate Premier League opposition in the form of Watford in order to further progress in the competition.

While Watford are favourites to progress to the next round of the FA Cup, Gray urged the club to remain in the competition as long as possible as it will allow a rich vein of confidence to run through the Whites.

The Leeds legend feels the players will feel more confident about themselves if the club can sustain a longer FA Cup run this season.

Gray said on LUTV: “I think if you go far in cup competitions, it gives confidence to the players.

“That result [against Bolton] wouldn’t have done the players any harm at all, looking forward to the game against Nottingham Forest.”

Leeds have not made it to the final of the FA Cup for more than four decades and the club have been missing from the latter stages of the competition for years.
