Celtic boss Ronny Deila believes Erik Sviatchenko is going to be a “quality player” for the club, following the defender’s performance in the 2-1 loss to Aberdeen last night.

The 24-year-old, who joined Celtic from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland last month, made his Hoops debut as a substitute in the 3-1 loss to Ross County in a League Cup semi-final at the weekend.

Sviatchenko came in for Callum McGregor at Hampden Park after Efe Ambrose received a direct red card.

As Ambrose was suspended, the Demark international started and played the entire top of the table clash at Pittodrie, with the centre-back even providing the assist for Leigh Griffiths’ late strike.

And Deila, who was satisfied with Sviatchenko’s performance against Aberdeen, explained that he was pleased to see the defender last the entire match.

“I think he did well”, he told Celtic TV, when asked about Sviatchenko.

“He’s going to be a quality player for us.

"He was good, he’s been out for a while, but he stayed on for 90 minutes and that’s a positive.”

Sviatchenko, who has four caps and a goal for Denmark to his name, made 25 appearances in all competitions for FC Midtjylland in the present campaign.
