Celtic manager Ronny Deila is confident that his side can do the league and cup double despite his side’s 2-1 loss at the hands of title rivals Aberdeen at Pittodrie Stadium last night, comparing his current position to that of Sir Alex Ferguson early in his managerial career.

The result helped Derek McInnes’ side close the gap on the Bhoys to three points and has livened up the Scottish Premiership title race.

The Dons took the lead through Jonny Hayes, who scored a thunderbolt from 25 yards out in the 31st minute.

Six minutes later Aberdeen doubled their lead as debutant striker Simon Church found the back of the net from close range.

Deila’s side scored a consolation goal in dying seconds of injury time through top scorer Leigh Griffiths.

Deila was disappointed with the loss, but believes he is still the right man for the job.

The 40-year-old cited the example of former Aberdeen manager Ferguson, suggesting that the Scot struggled at the start and improved with time.

Deila is confident of doing the Scottish Cup and league double this time and feels that the loss will only make his side stronger..

“So many times I comment on these things”, Deila was quoted as saying by the Daily Record.

“People have different opinions but I’m confident I’m the man to do this.

“All big managers have problems at the start of their careers at different clubs. Just look at Alex Ferguson. You get through tough periods then you are stronger.

“We are going to do this together. We are going to win this league, we are going to fight for the Scottish Cup and we are going to get stronger after this.

“I feel the pressure all the time. The goals are very clear – win the league. That’s what we are going to do.”

The Bhoys travel to Excelsior Stadium to take on East Kilbride in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
