Yaya Sanogo has revealed that he spoke to Arsenal team-mate Francis Coquelin before he decided to join Charlton Athletic on loan on deadline day.

The Frenchman joined Ajax last summer on loan until the end of the season, but he did very little of note in his few months in the Netherlands and his stay at the Amsterdam ArenA was cut short prematurely earlier this week.

The 23-year-old joined Championship struggles Charlton on loan on Monday, and admits that he took advice from Arsenal team-mate Coquelin, who also had a loan spell with them, before deciding to move to the Valley earlier this week.

He revealed that he enjoyed the first training session with his new club, and is keen to help Charlton in their quest to avoid dropping out of the Championship this season.

Sanogo told the club’s official website: “I spoke to my friend Francis Coquelin and he told me a few things about the club. He said that this was a good club and that is would be a good choice for me to come here.

“My first day here was very good. I met all of my team-mates the manager and I am happy to sign with Charlton.

“I want to help us to stay in the league and I will work very hard to try and do that."

Charlton are currently second from bottom in the Championship table, and they will be hoping Sanogo scores the goals they need to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

The Frenchman has failed to impress in his last two loan spells at Crystal Palace and Ajax, and he will want to prove his worth before he returns to Arsenal in the summer.
