Valencia head coach Gary Neville has labelled last night’s humiliating 7-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final as one of his most painful nights in football.

In an eventful night at the Camp Nou, Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick while Luis Suarez helped himself to four goals.

Los Che defender Shkodran Mustafi was sent off for a foul inside the box on Neymar, but the Brazilian striker scuffed his lines and hit the post from the spot.

Neville, who is without a win in eight league games as Valencia head coach, had to fend off questions regarding his future as Los Che manager.

The former Manchester United right-back underlined that it was one of his worst experiences in football and admitted that the fans did not deserve it.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, Neville said: "This was one of my most painful nights in football.

"The scoreline is unacceptable. I have not enjoyed tonight. I won't sleep well tonight.

“I didn't like what I saw. The fans didn't deserve that. We have to recover incredibly quickly.

"This is one of the worst experiences I've ever gone through in football."

Neville’s side have an arduous task at hand if they are to overturn this seven goal deficit in the second leg at Mestella on 10th February.
