Leeds United manager Steve Evans is not desperate to sign a new striker despite Chris Woods suffering a fresh injury setback.

Woods has been suffering with a hamstring concern this season, but he returned to action earlier this month to provide more options up front to Evans.

However, the forward suffered another setback against Brentford on 26th January, when he was replaced by Mirco Antenucci after just 18 minutes.

While Evans hopes to have the New Zealand international back in action in the next couple of weeks, there are also fears that he could be out for longer but the Leeds boss insisted that it doesn’t mean he is definitely signing a forward once the loan window opens.

When asked whether a striker becomes a priority now once the loan window opens, he said on LUTV: “Doesn’t mean we are definitely making a move.

“We have always said that we would like to strengthen that area of the team and we tried really hard right up to the deadline.”

The Whites failed with a bid to sign Sam Winnall from Barnsley during the last days of the January window, and it also led to a war of words between Evans and his Tykes counterpart Lee Johnson.

Antenucci wanted to leave the club on deadline day too, but the club successfully kept him away from the clutches of a number of Italian clubs.
