Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that Phil Jones is close to returning from his injury after training with the team, and long term absentees Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia are also progressing well.

The Dutchman has been dealing with a number of injury problems over the last few months, but on the positive side some good news is finally coming out of Manchester United’s treatment room.

The Manchester United boss pointed out that defender Jones finally trained with the first team squad earlier today, and is on his way to returning to action sooner rather than later.

He also added that he is happy with the way long term absentees Shaw and Valencia are progressing with their respective injuries and is also expecting some positive news on them soon.

However, Van Gaal conceded that Germany captain Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has been out since sustaining an injury in their win over Swansea last month, is still struggling to gain full fitness.

“There is some light at the end of the tunnel, I think”, Van Gaal told MUTV.

“Jones is coming back. He has trained today [Friday] with the first team so that's good.

"[Marcos] Rojo is doing well. It's not that he can train with us but still he is doing well. Shaw is doing well and Valencia is doing well so it's not bad.

“Schweinsteiger is still out, yes.”

Manchester United will look to build on their new found momentum with another win when they visit Chelsea on Sunday.
