Shakhtar Donetsk have confirmed that Alex Teixeira has joined Chinese club Jiangsu Suning for €50m, breaking the Asian transfer record.

The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in January, with the Reds even putting forward a £24.5m bid for Teixeira, but their offer was turned down by the Ukrainian giants.

However, Jiangsu Suning moved in swiftly to snap up the attacking midfielder after agreeing a €50m fee with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Earlier in the week, fellow Chinese outfit Guangzhou Evergrande shattered the Asian transfer record by signing striker Jackson Martinez from Atletico Madrid for €42m, but now the record lies with Jiangsu Suning.

Teixeira, who joined Shakhtar Donetsk from Vasco da Gama in January 2009, made 223 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 89 goals. He was especially prolific this season, scoring 26 goals in as many games in all competitions.
