Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has welcomed Manchester City's move to appoint Pep Guardiola as their new manager as he feels that it will help to bring the best out of them.

The Citizens confirmed the appointment of the Spaniard as their new manager last month, revealing that the former Barcelona boss will replace Manuel Pellegrini who leaves at the end of the season.

Herrera, who has his loyalties resting with the Red Devils, feels that the Citizens will have a psychological advantage because they have always been considered inferior to their arch-rivals and now with their recent feats and the appointment of Guardiola they will feel that they can go one step further than Manchester United.

Speaking about the appointment of his countryman as Manchester City's new manager, Herrera told Spanish daily Marca: "I'm looking at it from a positive point of view.

"They're going to make us do better ourselves. Historically, City have always been below United, and this gives them a psychological advantage, because they are coming from behind."

The 26-year-old also took time to speak about the pressure that will be on the new Manchester City manager as his club will expect a lot from him when they back him in the transfer market.

"With Pep, with the multi-million pound outlay they've made and will spend with him, I expect the pressure to be higher for them.

"The fans are going to expect a lot: that they win the Premier League with a ten-point gap, that they reach the Champions League final.

"Pep seems a phenomenon to me. His teams always entertain me a lot, but at City the expectations will be very big."
