Arsenal legend Martin Keown feels that Tottenham Hotspur have now moved ahead of the Gunners as a football club, closing a perceived ten-year gap between the two sides this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been impressive since the start of the season and have now leapfrogged Arsenal into second spot in the Premier League table following a win over Watford.

The Lilywhites find themselves within five points of league leaders Leicester City and have the best defensive record in the league.

Keown spent 17 years with the Gunners in two spells and lifted the English Premier League on three occasions, coupled with three FA Cups, three Community Shields and one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.

The English international, who made over 300 appearances for the Gunners, insists that at the start of the season Spurs looked to be ten years behind Arsenal.

However, according to Keown, during the course of the season Pochettino’s side appear to have bridged the  gap and moved ahead of the Gunners.

The 49-year-old was full of praise for the Argentine manager and has been impressed by the strides made by the White Hart Lane outfit this season.

Speaking ahead of the Watford game on BBC Radio 5 live, Keown said: “Pochettino, the way that he has come in, and I know lots of comparisons with Arsenal.

“At the start of the season it looked like they were maybe a good ten years behind Arsenal.

“There's a new stadium going up here and they've really closed that gap and perhaps gone above Arsenal now.

“Dele Alli in midfield, Harry Kane up front, lots to be really pleased about.

“The manner Tottenham play, how they press the opposition, it's really impressive.”

The White Hart Lane outfit have now firmly forced their way into the reckoning for the title, while Arsenal are enduring a mini-slump.
