Former West Ham United striker Marlon Harewood believes Dimitri Payet is getting better with each passing game.

The Frenchman, who was snapped up by the Hammers from Marseille in the summer, has been the main driving force behind the club’s strong ongoing campaign.

Payet has scored six goals in 21 appearances in all competitions for West Ham, in addition to providing five assists.

The 28-year-old spent over a month on the sidelines between late November and December with a ligament injury, with Payet’s absence coinciding with the Upton Park outfit’s worst run this season.

However, West Ham have lost just one Premier League game in five outings since Payet returned to action as late substitute in the 2-0 win over Liverpool on New Year’s Day.

And Harewood, who currently plays for Nuneaton Town, has lauded the performances of the attacking midfielder at West Ham.

“Everyone is talking about Dimitri Payet and from what I have seen of him he looks a decent player”, he wrote on his blog on West Ham's official site.

“He is certainly enjoying his time at West Ham and every game he is getting better and better.

“It helps the boys out for games to come.”

West Ham are currently sixth in the Premier League with 39 points from 24 games, just six adrift of top four.
