Celtic captain Scott Brown has dismissed suggestions that the Bhoys lack fighting spirit and that the team do not do well in tough situations.

Ronny Deila’s side have endured a tough seven days during which they saw their dream of winning a fourth domestic treble turn to ashes, before losing to title challengers Aberdeen, helping the Pittodrie outfit to reduce the gap between the two sides to only three points.

The Bhoys have been accused of having a soft underbelly and lacking the fighting spirit to grind out results in tough games.

Brown marked his return to the first team in the 2-1 loss against Aberdeen having spent close to three months on the sidelines due to a knee injury picked up in November.

The 30-year-old midfielder has managed 22 appearances for Deila’s side this season, scoring one goal and assisting two others.

Brown feels that consistency is important in today’s game, but squad rotation takes precedence as the season goes on.

According to the Scotland international, as legs start to tire around the 35-40 game mark, top quality players should be available to come in and help the team.

Brown dismissed the notion that the Bhoys lack fight and insists that a couple of players are returning from injury who can help the club fight until the end of the season.

Speaking in an interview with the Herald Scotland, Brown said: “Consistency is huge in this game, but to have that squad rotation as well, once legs get tired after 35 or 40 games, then you need top quality players available to come in.

“We need to put trust in them, whether it is 15 or 20 minutes off the bench or for 90 minutes.

“I disagree we lack fight.

"I think we still have players there and we have players coming back who have that. Charlie Mulgrew has been a big miss for us for a big part of the season and he’s definitely got that.

“He loves the club, he fights, he wants to win and that’s what we need to show a lot more of.”

Deila’s side travel to the Excelsior Stadium to take on East Kilbride in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup tomorrow.
