Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb has explained that he does not know what to expect from Roberto Firmino.

The Brazil international joined the Reds from Hoffenheim in a £29m deal last summer and started his Liverpool career under Brendan Rodgers.

After initially struggling to find his mark in the Premier League, Firmino managed to find a purple patch last month, scoring four goals in as many Premier League games.

As a result, the 24-year-old, who has in total scored five goals in 29 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, was named the club’s Player of the Month for January.

However, Babb insisted that he is still unconvinced about Firmino being suited to the Premier League, despite the attacking midfielder showing moments of brilliance during his time at Anfield.

“He’s a very temperamental, archetypical Brazilian player”, he told LFC TV, when asked about Firmino.

“Loads of flair, but you always question if he’s really suited for the Premier League.

“Certainly at the start of the season he wasn’t, but recently he’s showing signs of form, shown his creativity, a couple of passes we saw in the Arsenal draw, certainly his goals, he has taken them with aplomb as well.

“So it’s highs and lows, we don’t know what to expect from him.”

Firmino, who netted braces against Arsenal and Norwich City in January, has also managed to provide six assists in total since his summer switch to Liverpool.

He also has 11 caps and four goals for Brazil to his name.
