Jurgen Klopp will not be present in Liverpool’s dugout at Anfield today for his side’s Premier League meeting with Sunderland, after suffering a suspected bout of appendicitis.

The Reds, who have failed to score in their last three games in all competitions, will be looking to bag the full three points against a relegation-threatened Black Cats team.

Liverpool edged out Sunderland 1-0 in the corresponding fixture at the Stadium of Light on New Year’s Day, courtesy of Christian Benteke’s winner.

However, the Belgian has since fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool start with Benteke against Sunderland, with the Merseyside giants preferring to use fellow summer signing Roberto Firmino as a false number nine.

Liverpool need to win today’s game to remain in the race for a top for finish, and the Reds are sure to miss Klopp’s energy and enthusiasm on the touchline.
