Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has asked Lewis Cook to look up to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli as an inspiration and add more goals to his game.

Cook is one of the most highly rated talents to come out of Leeds’ academy in recent years, and at 18, he is already one of the certain starters in Steve Evans’ side, but many feel there is still something missing from his game.

Despite being a forward thinking midfielder, the youngster’s goals and assists charts are poor and Gray has already spoken about how Cook must add a selfish streak to his game to become a top player.

The Leeds legend feels the youngster should look up to Tottenham’s Alli, and how the 19-year-old has stepped up on his game from his time at MK Dons, by regularly scoring goals for Mauricio Pochettino’s impressive Spurs team.

Gray urged Cook to develop the same ambition and instincts to score goals, as it will not only benefit Leeds as a team, but will also help him to take his game to the next level.

The Leeds legend said on LUTV: “Lewis should look at, I am not saying as a role model, the young boy that has broken into the Tottenham Hotspur side.

“He came from MK Dons; he is in the box, he has got talent, but he scores goals. He gets onto the end of things because he is thinking all the time.

“He scored a wonderful goal on television, we have all seen that, but his goal the other night was a tap in after the goalkeeper saves it. He has got that instinct and ambition to score goals.

“I don’t know whether Lewis has been a goalscorer as a young player, but playing in that role it would be beneficial for the football club and his own personal career if he adds a few goals.

“We are not talking about 20 goals a season, but eight to ten goals from the midfield area.”

Alli already has seven goals and five assists to his name this season in all competitions and has secured a starting berth in Tottenham’s first eleven on the sheer force of his performances.
