Alex Mowatt will be involved with Leeds United Under-21s on Monday as he continues his progress back from injury, Whites boss Steve Evans has revealed.

It had been thought Mowatt might be in the mix to feature against Nottingham Forest on Saturday at Elland Road, but the midfielder missed out in a game the Whites lost 1-0.

Evans insists Mowatt was part of the initial squad of 20 picked for the game, but following medical advice the decision not to involve him was made.

And the next step for Mowatt will be to play for the club's Under-21 side on Monday as he works to be ready for Leeds' next match, at home to Middlesbrough.

"He was in the squad, he was in the 20, but he just didn't get stripped", Evans said at a press conference.

"He's trained for three days, so we have to see about Alex. He will play in the 21s on Monday for part of the game.

"No one likes Alex Mowatt more than me.

"He's given me some special moments in my short time here, but the medical advice was let him have three or four training sessions and part of a game and then he will be ready", he added.

Evans will be wary about rushing Mowatt back as the Whites appear to have little to play for in the league this season following their loss to Nottingham Forest.

Currently Leeds are 16th in the Championship table and 14 points off a top six playoff spot.
