Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has hinted at considerable changes at Elland Road in the summer as he looks to shape a squad to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

A 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest yesterday all but ended Leeds' hopes of working their way up to a top six spot in the Championship this term.

The Whites are now 14 points behind sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday and sit in a lowly 16th spot in the league standings.

For Evans, the problem is not a lack of money, with the head coach arguing Leeds have a top six budget. Indeed, the Scot explained that the budget was not spent well, with players coming in who have not been up to the mark, as last summer the budget was good enough.

Under Uwe Rosler, Leeds brought in a host of players last summer, including Lee Erwin, Jordan Botaka, Tom Adeyemi and Stuart Dallas, to add to other players who had failed to make their mark, including Casper Sloth.

And Evans expects departures in the summer in order to free up space on the wage bill for his own signings.

"For us to do certain things, certain players will need to leave, that's obvious", he told a press conference.

"This budget is a very healthy budget. This budget back in July was a top six budget in fairness to the president and it still is today.

"So the reason you're not in the top six is because of the players. It's not because you've not paid the money.

"You've signed the players thinking they would take you to where you want to be.

"The problem lies therein the football club that those players are not good enough", Evans added.
