Leeds United boss Steve Evans has revealed that Mustapha Carayol is in the mix to feature for the Whites from the start of games due to his lively display in Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Evans, who brought Carayol in on loan from Middlesbrough in the winter transfer window, started with the winger on the bench at Elland Road.

He was introduced in the 70th minute of the encounter and looked lively, causing Forest some nervy moments in defence and leaving Evans pleased with his performance.

And as such he has played his way back into the boss' thoughts, though Evans noted Carayol's good work was not fully taken advantage of against Forest due to Chris Wood being absent through injury.

"Mustapha went out [of the team] because he was poor and the team did really well", Evans told a press conference.

"You look afterwards at what you should have done, it's always a different day. We'll look back at the DVD and say what we should have done.

"But if there was a sign you need a Chris Wood it's when Mustapha picks up the ball, beats a player and puts it in the box and no one is on the end of it", the former Rotherham United manager continued.

"But Mustapha gives himself a chance of being involved next week because he came on and was very good."

Leeds are next in action on 15th February when they are due to host Championship high fliers Middlesbrough.
