Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal refuses to believe the Red Devils are already in talks over appointing Jose Mourinho to succeed him in the summer, and has blasted how his treatment in the media has impacted on his family.

Van Gaal is under severe pressure at Old Trafford after the side crashed out of the Champions League earlier this season and have slipped out of the top four in the current campaign.

Indeed, they are currently in fifth spot and five points off a top four place, with Arsenal sitting in fourth and Leicester City, who lead the table, showing no sign of slowing down.

Van Gaal's men visit Stamford Bridge later today amid reports that Manchester United have opened talks with Mourinho's representatives.

Van Gaal, angry at how his family have been affected, does not believe the reports.

He was quoted as saying by the BBC: "I cannot believe that because I have seen what is happening in the past two months and it was difficult for me, my wife, kids, grandchildren and friends to cope with that.

"It is the football world nowadays. It is a pity but it is like that", Van Gaal added.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December after a disastrous run of results turned last season's champions into relegation battlers.

The Blues have still not recovered and are a lowly 13th in the Premier League table and 16 points off the top four.
