Liverpool Under-21 boss Michael Beale has hailed Adam Bogdan’s first half performance in the 3-0 loss to Manchester City in an Under-21 Premier League Division 1 match on Sunday.

The goalkeeper, who joined Liverpool from Bolton Wanderers in the summer, has thus far made just five senior appearances for the club before falling down the pecking order behind Simon Mignolet and Danny Ward.

As a result, Bogdan has featured for the Under-21s, with the 28-year-old producing several key saves in the opening 45 minutes against the Manchester City starlets on Sunday.

However, the Hungarian could do nothing to prevent Ashley Smith-Brown from finding the back of the net before the break.

Further goals from Brandon Barker and David Faupala in the second half gave the visitors a deserved victory, with the Reds suffering their first defeat in seven games in all competitions.

And Beale, who felt Bogdan’s saves kept Liverpool in the game, was however, thoroughly disappointed with his side’s overall performance against the Citizens.

“I thought Adam Bogdan was outstanding in the first half, kept us in the game”, he said on LFC TV after the match.

“And I told the boys that at half-time.

“It was a strange performance from us, we are really really disappointed, so I can’t beat around it any more than that.

“We’re really disappointed with our performance today.”

Beale’s team are currently eighth in the Under-21 Premier League with 15 points from 14 games, 14 adrift of leaders Sunderland.
