Rotherham United have confirmed that they have parted company with first team manager Neil Redfearn.

The former Leeds United manager has been sacked by the Millers four months after his appointment on 9th October 2015.

The Millers currently find themselves in the relegation zone in 22nd position in the Championship league table, one point ahead of Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic, who occupy the bottom two places.

The New York Stadium outfit’s 2-1 defeat against relegation threatened Bolton Wanderers is believed to be a major factor in the club hierarchy’s decision to sack the 50-year-old.

In a statement released by the club, chairman Tony Stewart thanked Redfearn for his contribution and highlighted that football is a results driven business and the decision has been taken to help the club retain their Championship status with 16 games left to play

"Everyone at the club wishes Neil well with his future career and thank him for his efforts and endeavour.

"Our focus now is 100% behind appointing a first team manager as soon as possible."

Redfearn previously served in Leeds’ academy in various positions, before taking over the first team on 1st November 2014, only to be removed from his position as head coach on 20th May after falling out with owner Massimo Cellino.
