It has emerged that FC Midtjylland starlet Mikkel Duelund knocked back an offer from Liverpool last summer.

The 18-year-old midfielder is already a member of the Danish side's senior squad and has turned heads with performances belying his tender years.

Duelund, who has represented Denmark at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level, popped onto Liverpool's radar and the Reds made a move for the starlet after watching the talent turning out for Denmark's Under-20 side in a friendly against Liverpool's Under-21s.

But Duelund felt his career would be better served by remaining with FC Midtjylland and after feeling flattered by the offer, soon decided he had no interest in heading to Anfield.

He told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet: "What club it was does not matter, but when you are told that there is interest from a relatively big club, you cannot help but respond to it.

"I was always aware that I should continue at Midtjylland. So the decision itself did not take long to make", Duelund added.

Duelund has already clocked up first team minutes for Midtjylland and so far this season has 14 appearances in all competitions under his belt for the Danish side.

The youngster managed 73 minutes in a Europa League fixture against Italian side Napoli and will no doubt be aiming to be involved when Midtjylland take on Manchester United in the round of 32 later this month; the first leg is in Denmark on 18th February.
