Barcelona and Netherlands legend Johan Cruyff is disappointed Pep Guardiola chose to move to Manchester City for his next position, with the Dutchman feeling Manchester United would have been a better switch.

Guardiola is currently in charge at Bayern Munich, but is not renewing his contract with the German champions and is instead heading to take over at Manchester City in the summer.

The former Barcelona coach had been highly sought after and it had been claimed Manchester United wanted him at Old Trafford.

But Guardiola will be taking over at the Red Devils' English rivals, something Cruyff feels is a shame.

"I'd like to see Pep working at Manchester United", the Dutchman told Esports Cope.

"The club has more tradition than Manchester City", he added.

However, Cruyff does accept that it is good time to take over at Manchester City, where he feels Guardiola can shape a team to his liking.

"It is clear that it is a good time to take over at Manchester City", he said.

"The environment, the money and the urge to create a good team is very big there", Cruyff added.

Current Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is departing at the end of the season to make way for Guardiola.

And Guardiola could yet be up against Jose Mourinho, following constant speculation Manchester United have now turned their attention to the former Chelsea boss.
