Leigh Griffiths has admitted that although Celtic are “overwhelming favourites” to win the Scottish Cup quarter-final clash with Greenock Morton next month, the Hoops should be wary about a cup upset.

Celtic progressed in the domestic cup competition after beating East Kilbride 2-0 at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie at the weekend, courtesy of goals from Griffiths and Colin Kazim-Richards.

On the other hand, Scottish Championship outfit Morton thrashed Annan Athletic 4-1 to set up a meeting with the Scottish champions.

And Griffiths, who knows his side will start as clear favourites at Celtic Park against Morton, however, does not want the Hoops to take Jim Duffy’s team lightly, especially as the club’s last visit to the ground resulted in a 1-0 loss to the hosts in a League Cup game in 2013.

“We’ve got to be happy with a home tie”, he told Celtic TV.

“Regardless of who it’s against, we’ll be overwhelming favourites but Morton will come with confidence from their last visit to Celtic Park where they beat us so we need to take care of it.

“Regardless of being home or away we’re favourites to win but with the home crowd behind us it can frighten teams a bit, especially with a Championship side coming. Hopefully there will be a bigger crowd than the last game as well.

“Cup upsets happen all the time so we need to make sure we’re not one of them.”

Celtic, who were knocked out by the League Cup after losing 3-1 to Ross County last month, are currently top of the Scottish Premiership table with 55 points from 24 games.
