Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has vowed to come back stronger after confirming that he has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery this week.

The Frenchman picked up the injury after landing awkwardly during the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.




Zouma, who is now expected to be sidelined for up to six months, was carried off Stamford Bridge on a stretcher.

The 21-year-old posted a message on Instagram alongside a picture of him kissing the ground: “Gutted that scan today has shown I injured my ACL.
 


“I will have surgery this week & will come back stronger.

Zouma, who will play no further part for Chelsea in the present campaign, will also miss the 2016 European Championship in his homeland in the summer.

The youngster has featured heavily for the Premier League champions this season, amassing 32 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.

He has two senior caps for France to his name and has also represented the nation at various youth levels.
