Rangers academy manager Ian Durrant has rued his side’s missed chances following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Falkirk Under-20s on Monday.

The Gers’ Under-20s suffered another stoppage time defeat, following the heart-breaking 2-1 loss against St Johnstone two weeks back.

Centre-back David Brownlie handed Durrant’s side the lead in the 15th minute, heading home Ryan Sinnamon’s whipped cross.

David Smith scored the equaliser for the away side in the 82nd minute after goalkeeper Maciej Gostomski was left exposed by the Gers defence.

Myles Hippolyte tested Gostomski from range, but the 27-year-old could only parry the ball away, which landed at the feet of Bob McHugh, who tapped the rebound home.

Durrant believes that his side dominated the game and created a record amount of chances, but were let down by their finishing.

The 49-year-old also feels that his side committed the cardinal sin of leaving the defence exposed in the last few minutes, as they went forward searching for the winner.

Speaking in an interview with Rangers TV, Durrant said: “It was a sore one, I’ve just been speaking to the boys and I thought the way we played tonight was a credit to them, we totally dominated the game.

“I don’t have the stats yet but I think it’s probably the record amount of chances we’ve created, in terms of shots on goal.

“But you have to take the chances when you’re on top and again we shot ourselves in the foot by leaving the back door open in the last few minutes to lose a goal.”

The Gers currently find themselves in seventh position in the league table, 22 points behind leaders Celtic.
