Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham wants the club to strengthen in the summer to win the Scottish Premiership next season.

Mark Warburton’s side currently sit comfortably at the top of the Scottish Championship with 59 points from 23 games and lead second placed Hibernian by eight points.

The Gers are on course to earn promotion to the Scottish top flight if they manage to maintain their current form until the end of the season.

Foderingham, who arrived in the summer from Swindon Town, has established himself as Warburton’s first choice shot-stopper and has kept eleven clean sheets in 23 league appearances.

The 25-year-old feels that the Gers need to add to the squad depth as they will be competing in a higher quality league and also feels that there should be more competition for places.

Foderingham believes competition for places helps the club get better, and any player scared of this competition is in the wrong line of work.

Speaking in an interview with STV, Foderingham said: "Obviously you're going to need better quality because you're going into a better league.

"We're going to need a lot more strength and depth, but that's competition for places.

"You want to be at a club that strives to get better, if you're scared of competition you're in the wrong business.

"Strong additions can only help the squad build and try and push for the title next season, not just this season.

"You've got to obviously plan for the season ahead and strengthen where you can."

The Gers travel to bottom placed Alloa Athletic on Saturday and will be hoping to continue their winning form since the turn of the year.
