Slaven Bilic has insisted that West Ham will do everything to keep Dimitri Payet at the club, amidst reported interest from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

It was reported earlier in some corners that Payet, who joined the Hammers from Marseille in the summer, demanded a huge pay rise, following his impressive displays for the club.

The attacking midfielder has thus far scored six goals and provided five assists in 23 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League outfit.

But West Ham, who edged out Liverpool 2-1 in an FA Cup replay against Liverpool last night, denied those reports and claimed that talks over a new contract for the Frenchman are progressing well.

Those talks accelerated after Shanghai Shenhua were linked with a £38m move for the player, whose present deal with West Ham runs until 2020.

And Bilic, who dubbed Payet the “best player” at Upton Park, explained that the club are confident about sorting out the 28-year-old’s contract issues.

“We must do everything we can to keep our best players, and he is our best player”, the Croatian was quoted as saying by the Press Association.

“He’s happy here and very soon we will sort out his situation.”

Payet, who provided the assist for Angelo Ogbonna’s extra-time winner against Liverpool, also has 15 caps and a goal for France to his name.
