Former Arsenal full-back Sylvinho is not sure that the Gunners are the favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Arsenal are currently third in the league table on 48 points, and are trailing league leaders Leicester City by five points. Tottenham are above Arsenal in second, though have the same number of points as their north London rivals.

With big teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea underperforming and Manchester City showing some inconsistencies, many feel this could be Arsenal’s best chance to end their long title drought.

However, Sylvinho thinks otherwise as he believes that the Gunners’ inexperience in sustaining a title race could prove to be vital and doesn’t feel that his former team are the frontrunners at the moment.

But he added that despite Arsenal’s failings he admires Arsene Wenger, who has managed to remain consistent despite the constantly changing landscape of the Premier League.

When asked whether his former side can win the title this season, the Brazilian told beIN Sport: “I wouldn’t say Arsenal are the favourites as they haven’t been champions for some time.

“But I admire Arsene Wenger’s work in several ways; when we go through and pass to the other side [become a manager] we get to have another view.

“It is not easy to compete in the Premier League; when I got there in the 1990s it didn’t have the financial power it does now. It has always been a strong country for football, but with a lot of money a lot has changed since then.”

The Brazilian won two Champions Leagues at Barcelona, but only received a Community Shield winners’ medal during his short spell at Arsenal.
