West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has revealed that the club are close to agreeing a new contract with star man Dimitri Payet.

The Frenchman has turned into a talismanic figure for West Ham since arriving from Marseille last summer, and Bilic’s team did suffer a dip in form when Payet was missing in action due to an injury towards the end of last year.

However, there has been speculation that Payet has a lucrative offer from a Chinese Super League club and the player could be tempted to move, which sent the Hammers scurrying into preparing a new contract for their star man.

And Bilic has revealed that the Frenchman is close to signing a new deal with the club, as both parties are keen to continue their association.

The West Ham boss said in a press conference this morning: "I think we are very close to Dimitri signing a new contract.

“Both parties have the same intention and that is to stay at West Ham."

Payet again came into the fore earlier this week when his free-kick led to Angelo Ogbonna scoring a late winner against Liverpool, which booked the Hammers’ place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
