Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is confident about his former manager Jose Mourinho's ability to handle the pressure of being the Manchester United manager.

The Portuguese has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, to replace current manager Louis van Gaal, who has been under pressure due to his team's below per performances this season.

The 37-year-old, who is presently in the United States plying his trade with Major League Soccer side New York City, insists that if the Red Devils think of replacing their manager at the end of the season, the name of Mourinho will certainly be taken into consideration.

Speaking on the issue, Lampard said in an interview with ITV: "I think it's a possibility.

"If Louis van Gaal goes on, which I think he's said he's going to leave at the end of the season at the latest, I think Mourinho's the type of manager that will certainly come into their thinking.

"He could certainly handle a club like that, that's what he's about."

Lampard also took time to reveal that the last time that he and his former Chelsea manager interacted was when Mourinho left Chelsea.

However, the midfielder is confident that the 53-year-old will sit tight for the moment with all the merry-go-round of managers going on and then will take the decision to join a big club.

"I haven't spoken to him much. I spoke to him briefly when he left Chelsea", Lampard revealed.

"There's a bit of a merry-go-round of managers at the minute and I think he'll probably sit tight for a while and then will end up at a big club somewhere, because he's a great manager."
