Leeds United boss Steve Evans has explained that there has been no setback in Chris Wood’s recuperation programme.

The striker, who joined the Whites from Leicester City in the summer, has been struggling with a hamstring injury since the turn of the year.

Although Wood made cameo appearances against Bristol City and Brentford in late January, he again had to be sidelined, with the 24-year-old penciled in to return against Watford in a FA Cup game on 20th February.

And Evans, who insisted that the medical staff at Elland Road are working hard to make Wood fit, stated that the club are unwilling to take any risk regarding the New Zealand international.

“Chris is on course”, he told the club’s official site.

“The medical team are working really hard.

“We’ve got to make sure he’s 100 per cent right when he comes back.”

Wood, whose present deal with Leeds runs until 2019, has thus far made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Yorkshire giants, scoring eight times and providing three assists.

The forward also has 39 caps and 14 goals for New Zealand to his name.
