Mark Warburton has lavished praise on Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dominic Ball for his assured out of position performances for Rangers, notably against Falkirk in front of a packed Ibrox.

Ball is usually deployed as a central defender by Warburton and has been battling for a place in the side with Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan.

But a suspension suffered by Andy Halliday combined with the need for a defensive midfielder saw Warburton shift Ball into the role – and he excelled.

Ball impressed Warburton so much that the Rangers boss now believes he has a genuine selection dilemma on his hands.

Speaking at a press conference, Warburton explained: "I think Dom has done exceptionally well.

"For a young 20-year-old centre half on loan to be asked to play in a big game against Falkirk out of position and in front of 47,000 fans", the Englishman, who is a boyhood Spurs fan, continued.

"To play to that level was a fantastic achievement by Dom and to show again in the next game the same level of consistency and defensive awareness and good use of the football, encouragement and communication to his team-mates.

"I think it’s outstanding, so he’s posed another selection headache. He has shown he can sit in that number 4 role for us and play a really key role. I’m delighted by that and by his overall contribution."

Ball had originally arrived at Rangers along with fellow Spurs starlet Nathan Oduwa on a season-long loan deal.

However, Oduwa had his loan stint cancelled by Rangers earlier this season. Ball meanwhile has continued to contribute towards Rangers' promotion push.
