Rangers manager Mark Warburton admits that he is preparing his side for the narrow pitch they will encounter at Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

The Scottish Championship side reduced the width of their artificial pitch midway through the season to improve their chances of surviving this season, and have received criticism from some quarters.

Warburton made his team train at the Recreation Park in the build-up to their game on 16th August 2015, and the Gers did come away with a convincing 5-1 win from Alloa.

The Rangers boss insisted that he won’t change the style of his team’s football because of the size of the pitch, indicating that they will look to play their game despite the conditions.

However, he did say that the preparations for the game have been different as they will have to get used to a narrower playing surface, and insisted that it is important that they are prepared for the conditions that they will encounter on Saturday.

“No not at all”, he told Rangers TV, “the philosophy never changes, formation won’t change.

“In preparing for the game we will do a lot of tight area work, narrow, looking to penetrate units and split units.

“We won’t concentrate so much on the width because there is no width. But it’s just about us preparing well for the game and there is no problem.

“We deal with the surface, you deal with the weather, whatever, but give yourself the best chance and prepare well.”

Rangers are currently leading the league table on 59 points and are on course to achieve promotion to the Scottish Premiership at the end of the season.
