Leeds United boss Steve Evans has confirmed that midfielder Alex Mowatt is set for Under-21 action against Sheffield United tomorrow.

The 20-year-old has been out of action with a thigh injury since the trip to Sheffield Wednesday last month. However, the player has now recovered full fitness and might soon make his first team comeback.

The 53-year-old manager though would like to have a look at his young talent to see whether he will be ready for Monday's visit to Middlesbrough.

Mowatt has in fact been working on the training ground and completed an hour in a behind-closed-doors fixture at Thorp Arch earlier in the week.

Speaking via his club's site, the Leeds United manager stated that Mowatt was set for Under-21 action on Monday against Crewe Alexandra but failed to have the opportunity as the match was postponed.

“We had the Under-21s match postponed over at Crewe on Monday, which Alex Mowatt was due to play in", Evans said.

“We quickly arranged a very competitive training ground and he got the benefit of an hour in that."

Evans also took time to reveal that a 45 minute run-out should "fine tune" him for the fixture on Monday.

“He’ll certainly play 45 minutes in an Under-21s game against Sheffield United on Friday, and that should fine tune him for Monday against Middlesbrough.

“We’ll have a look at whether he’s ready to start or not, but otherwise the squad will be as we were."
