Leeds United assistant boss Paul Raynor has revealed that Steve Evans and his coaching staff are already putting plans in place for next season and feels turning the Whites into promotion contenders is not an impossible job.

The Whites have finished 15th in the last two seasons and are currently 16th in the league table, but Evans has maintained that with time he can build a team that will challenge for promotion as early as next season.

After a lacklustre winter transfer window, concerns were raised about the direction the club are going, but Raynor is confident about the future and insisted that plans are already in place for next season.

He revealed that Evans and his staff are going ahead with their plans for the next season and admits that they are reasonably confident that they have a good group of core players around which a team can be built for a top six challenge next term.

The Leeds assistant said in a press conference: “We are planning for next season.

“Plans are in place, we are looking at pre-season, we are looking at potential signings, who is going to be part of the plans. We are making plans, we know the job at hand; we know it’s a big job, but it is certainly not an impossible job.

“We see enough in the dressing room already to see that there is nucleus there. We need one or two additions may be more to make us successful and be a contender [for promotion].

“So the plans are in place, and hopefully we are ones who implement it.”

Leeds will look to get their league season back on track when they host table toppers Middlesbrough on Monday night at Elland Road.
