Leeds United assistant manager Paul Raynor is not expecting Middlesbrough to adopt Nottingham Forest’s defensive strategies, which he feels could lead to an entertaining game on Monday night.

Despite dominating possession against Forest at Elland Road last Saturday, the Whites slumped to a 1-0 defeat, as the visitors frustrated the home side with their defensive tactics and nicked all three points.

Leeds dropped down to 16th in the Championship table, and have just one win from their last eight games, but Raynor is feeling optimistic ahead of Middlesbrough’s visit on Monday night.

The Leeds assistant is expecting a much more open and exciting game against Boro as he doesn’t feel Aitor Karanka’s table topping side will adopt Forest’s tactics and would look to take the game to the Whites.

When asked about his expectations from the Middlesbrough game, Raynor said in a press conference: “I think it’s an exciting game, one that we are anticipating [is going to be] a good and open game.

“Certainly they are not going to do what Nottingham Forest did, come and park ten men behind the ball. They will try and play an open game.

“They obviously got some very talented players, so it bodes well for a good entertaining game.”

Leeds suffered a 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Middlesbrough when they visited Teeside earlier this season in September.
