Celtic legend Tom Boyd does not believe defender Erik Sviatchenko needs to wear a headband.

The Scottish champions snapped up the Denmark international defender in the recently concluded winter transfer window, from FC Midtjylland.

He was named in the centre of defence alongside Dedryck Boyata in Celtic's 2-0 home win over Ross County this afternoon.

And Sviatchenko caught the eye by sporting a headband, a sight not often seen in Scottish football.

For Boyd, Sviatchenko does not need the headband and the former Celtic defender feels it is a fashion accessory for the centre-back.

"To be fair, for Sviatchenko it looks more like a fashion statement than a necessity, given the length of his hair", Boyd said on Celtic TV during the course of the game.

And Boyd feels that manager Ronny Deila will be pleased with his side's 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Leigh Griffiths on the stroke of half time and Boyata after the break.

"The manager will be delighted with the level of performance and the result was just about right", Boyd added.

Celtic have now put daylight between themselves and Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, though their title rivals are in action on Monday night away at Inverness.
